Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The screen quota for Korean films was cut from 146 to 73 days by the 2007 free trade agreement between the US and South Korea, and 2007 became a poor year for South Korean cinema: production costs rose, a string of films flopped and overseas sales of Korean films dropped.
- In May 2008 only 7.8% of films shown in South Korea were Korean, the lowest level since records began in 2000, and it was hoped the Korean film industry would rally behind Public Enemy Returns.
