Plot summary
The men of Esperanza, a small Spanish port, compete for Pandora Reynolds, an American nightclub singer who has never loved any of them. The land-speed record holder Stephen Cameron drives his racing car into the sea to prove his love when she asks it of him, and she agrees to marry him. That night a yacht anchors in the bay with one man aboard, the Dutch captain Hendrik van der Zee, who paints Pandora in the guise of her namesake. The archaeologist Geoffrey Fielding, cataloging relics found nearby, befriends him. The bullfighter Juan Montalvo arrives in town and falls for Pandora as well.
