Plot summary
Eugene Bell and Tucker Cleigh grew up as best friends. Tucker's life runs on women, while Eugene speaks to schoolchildren about abstinence and saves sex for marriage with his sweetheart Cindi Whitehall. Cindi decides on prom day that they should finally sleep together, and they plan to meet at an after-prom party. There Tucker gives the nervous Eugene several shots of liquor; Eugene wanders through a basement door, tumbles down the steps and ends up in a coma. He wakes four years later to learn that Cindi has become the March centerfold of Playboy magazine. Tucker is fleeing Candace, his girlfriend, and her brother Rick, a fireman, and plans a cross-country drive to the Playboy Mansion to crash the annual birthday bash so Eugene can see Cindi again.

- Robert Wagner first played Hugh Hefner and, by Trevor Moore and Zach Cregger's account, did it well, but test audiences who knew Hefner from The Girls Next Door would not accept him. The pair went to Playboy with their tails between their legs, and Hefner agreed to play himself.
- Mila Kunis was discussed for the title role, but an awkward conversation about the injuries she suffered shooting Forgetting Sarah Marshall made directors Trevor Moore and Zach Cregger think again. Both later said losing her hurt the film's marketing as her fame grew.
- Playboy founder Hugh Hefner's appearance here was the last on-screen film role of his life; he died in 2017.
