Plot summary
On the eve of her sister Pauline's wedding, Margot arrives from Manhattan at the family's Long Island home with her son Claude. The groom is Malcolm, an unemployed musician whom Margot considers completely unattractive; she has also come to be interviewed in public at a local bookstore by Dick Koosman, an author she is collaborating with on a screenplay, and his teenage daughter Maisy is at the house as well. Pauline is expecting a child, news she has kept from Malcolm and from her pre-teen daughter Ingrid, and she resents Margot for turning her life into published fiction and for the end of her first marriage. Neither sister confronts the other; the frustration lands on Malcolm and on Claude.
