Plot summary
Terry Griffith writes for her high school paper in Phoenix, Arizona, and thinks her looks keep her teachers from taking her work seriously. When boys' articles beat hers for an internship, she blames sexism. With her parents on a Caribbean vacation, she enrolls at a rival high school as a boy named Terry, a secret kept by her brother Buddy and her friend Denise. There she meets Rick Morehouse, a transfer student, and helps him with a new image. She also has to handle Kevin, her college boyfriend, and bullies led by the bodybuilder Greg Tolan at the new school.
