Plot summary
Pietro Zinni loses his post as a neurobiologist when the university's financial crisis forces cuts. No other contract comes his way. A meeting with one of his students teaches him what a smart drug fetches on the street. He gathers former researchers who share his situation: a chemist, two Latin scholars, an economist, an archaeologist and a cultural anthropologist, all with doctorates and all scraping by in jobs beneath their training. The group settles on a substance that Italian law has not yet made illegal and starts to sell it. Success comes at once, and none of them is ready for the life that sudden money brings.
