Plot summary
Melanie has just left rehab when she returns to her parents' home in Emerald, Texas, where her sister Crystal lives. Their father works on a crew building a highway across the old train tracks, and Crystal tells Melanie about the crossing where a school bus and a train collided in 1957, killing all the children on board. By local legend, a driver who stops there will feel the children push the car and find their fingerprints on the bumper. Someone in a train conductor's uniform has been killing people in Emerald. Melanie's mother gives her a cold welcome, and when Crystal takes her out to a party and then to the crossing, Melanie sees a little girl who calls herself Julie. The visions that follow make her mother think she is using drugs again.
