Plot summary

Hannah Dunbar is the star on-air reporter at a San Francisco station, and word comes that she will run its New York operations from the New Year. Ten years ago she arrived there as an intern, planning to go home afterward and marry her sweetheart, Ben Matthews, an aspiring novelist she has not seen since. Her boss, news director Grant Walker, is also her boyfriend, and he takes the end of that relationship as inevitable. Then Ben gets in touch and asks to see her. At the office Christmas party a Salvation Army Santa listens while Hannah wonders how things would have gone had she never boarded the plane west and had married Ben instead. She wakes into that life, wife to Ben and mother to Caitlin and Hailie, learning her way around a suburban home and two children.
