Plot summary
Tom has invented a machine that can put a person inside another person's subconscious. He needs money to finish the prototype and takes it from a backer whose name he does not know. When that backer threatens to pull out, Tom agrees to show the machine a month earlier than planned. The money belongs to an official with the Department of Corrections, who intends to use the device to draw confessions out of convicts. Tom finds the idea repellent, but a friend who is an entrepreneur persuades him to go ahead. He steps inside the mind of Anthony, an addict suspected of killing his girlfriend Adrienne. Anthony has volunteered to prove he is innocent. The machine malfunctions, and Tom is trapped inside Anthony's mind while his body stays in a coma.
