Plot summary
Nick Halsey has sold for sixteen years in Arcadia, Arizona when a drinking incident in Denver costs him his job. He comes home to changed locks, a farewell letter from his wife Catherine and his possessions spread across the front lawn. His credit cards, phone, bank account and company car are gone, and the police want him off the property. His AA sponsor, Detective Frank Garcia, issues a yard sale permit so Nick can stay a few more days. Nick pays Kenny, a boy from the neighborhood, to watch his belongings, and the two begin selling them. Samantha, the pregnant woman next door, lives alone in the new house while waiting for her husband.
