Plot summary

In early 1970s Brazil, a groundbreaking dance and theater group called Dzi Croquettes forms as an all-male cabaret. The thirteen performers wear sequins and blend masculine and feminine traits on stage. They are not female impersonators, yet they refuse to call themselves men. Through talent, irony, and humor, they confront the military dictatorship's violence and censorship. The regime bans and censors their shows, but the group's sexual ambiguity earns admiration from men and women, gay and straight. Loosely based on San Francisco's The Cockettes, they assert individualism, nonconformity, and the arts. Their new stage language influences an entire generation and revolutionizes the gay movement. They challenge conventional ideas about acceptable masculine or feminine behavior.
