Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Digimon Adventure: Our War Game (2000)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Early drafts of Our War Game had the Year 2000 problem caused by a Digimon. Director Mamoru Hosoda dropped the idea, believing the film would feel dated once the year 2000 had passed, though references to the millennium bug still appeared in promotional materials.
  • Mamoru Hosoda pitched two plots for the film: a road movie inspired by Midnight Run in which Kamiya travels to Okinawa, and a WarGames-inspired story where the hero saves the world without leaving home. Toei chose the WarGames concept.
  • Constrained by the film's 40-minute runtime, Mamoru Hosoda narrowed the cast from the TV series' eight characters and their Digimon partners to four. Inspired by the 1994 film Speed, he built the story around a countdown in roughly real time.
  • Mamoru Hosoda said Our War Game "kind of started my idea for Summer Wars," which became the feature-length version of that idea and let him explore material he could not fit in Our War Game's 40 minutes.
  • Maurice Ravel's Boléro and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" are used as motifs; Hosoda included the latter as a reference to its use in the bomb run scene of Dr. Strangelove.
