Plot summary
In Ming Dynasty China, fate has a match in mind for two sets of siblings. The high-born pair is Emperor Zheng De and his sister Wushuang, kept inside the palace by their mother, the Empress Dowager. The low-born pair is the wanderer Li Yilong, called King Bully for the way he once terrified the town of Meilong, and his sister Phoenix, who runs a restaurant there. Wushuang leaves the palace dressed as a man, and Li Yilong and Phoenix take her for one; Li Yilong is so taken with his new friend that he offers his sister in marriage. The Emperor also leaves, in commoner's clothes, to look for Wushuang, and meets Phoenix. He courts her without telling her who he is, while imperial guards try to bring him home.
