Plot summary
In East Texas, the staff of a rest home know a resident as Sebastian Haff, though he says he is the real Elvis Presley. Years earlier he tired of fame and traded identities with an impersonator, then could not trade back: a propane explosion burned the papers that proved who he was, and an injury on stage left him in a coma for two decades. His friend Jack says he is John F. Kennedy, patched up after the shooting, his skin dyed black, then left in a nursing home. Jack has researched the creature in the home: a mummy, stolen on a museum tour, lost when the thieves' bus ran into a river nearby, dressed as a cowboy, and taking the souls of the residents. Elvis names it Bubba Ho-Tep, and the two men plan to destroy it.
