Plot summary
Conor Sullivan plays lacrosse at his new high school, where Brooklyn catches his eye, though he still finds little meaning in his days. His father, Marine Lieutenant Colonel Seamus Sullivan, is redeployed to Iraq and killed there in battle. Conor is shaken and refuses to accept it, and he begins to act in ways that hurt himself, alarming his mother Claire. After a violent clash on the field with his long-time rival Dupree and a vandalism incident, he spends time in a jail cell and is thrown off the team. He then heads to a wilderness lacrosse camp led by Sgt. Major Duke Wayne, an old combat friend of his father.
