Plot summary
E.J. Baxter works as a publicist at Lillah Sherwood's New York firm and is engaged to a colleague, Noah. Just before Christmas she is fired and learns that Noah has been unfaithful, and the engagement ends. After months in which no rival firm will hire her, she accepts a one-year contract from Mayor Bob Baker to draw corporate retreats to Kalispell, Montana, where her only colleague is the cheerful Jan Lucas. Months into the job, E.J. resolves to raise money for the volunteer Search and Rescue team, which wants a helicopter. Her plan is a calendar of twelve of its men in partial undress. Fly fishing guide Jason Farrar backs the idea, while Will Albrecht, who runs a sporting goods store, refuses to take part, so E.J. sets out to persuade the remaining men.
