Plot summary
Tarek is a Muslim high schooler in West Beirut, and in April 1975 a war divides the city along a line separating his mixed western side from the largely Christian east. The school he attends stands in East Beirut, and it closes to West Beirut residents. He makes Super 8 movies with Omar, his friend, and the fighting around them fascinates the pair at first. May, a Christian girl whose parents are gone, lives in the same building as Tarek. His mother wants the family to leave the country, and his father refuses to go. Crossing between the two sides of the city has become nearly impossible.
