Plot summary
The wealthiest and most powerful men in the world stage a private competition every seven years. The world's deadliest assassins are brought to an unsuspecting city, each fitted with a tracking device under the skin, and given twenty-four hours to kill one another. The last one standing wins ten million dollars and the title of the world's number one assassin. This year the contest comes to Middlesbrough. Among the contestants is Joshua Harlow, the previous winner, who has been told that his wife's murderer is in the game. Lai Lai Zhen, an assassin who wants to win enough money to leave the life, is also there. When a struggling alcoholic priest named Father Joseph MacAvoy accidentally swallows a tracking chip, he becomes a target, and Lai Lai Zhen is the only one willing to keep him alive.
