Plot summary
Mossad agent Rachel Singer arrives in East Berlin in 1965 for her first field assignment, joining the experienced David Peretz and Stephan Gold. Their target is Dieter Vogel, the Nazi doctor remembered as the Surgeon of Birkenau, who now runs a clinic in the city and is to be taken to Israel for trial. Rachel and David pass themselves off as an Argentine husband and wife, and Rachel arranges to be seen at the clinic as a patient. In 1997, in Tel Aviv, Rachel is honored at a party for a book her daughter Sarah has written about the mission. Stephan brings evidence that a man claiming to be Vogel is in a hospital in Ukraine, and Rachel travels to Kyiv.
