Plot summary
Thom and Celia argue on a bridge: he says each of them should follow their passion, his being spaceflight, hers robotics. Celia, reading his unease about her robotic hand, ends things. Forty years pass, and robots built by Celia have overrun a deserted Amsterdam. A band of warriors and scientists gathers at the Oude Kerk, where augmented reality projectors are rigged to recreate the bridge from that argument, and a captive robot waits in containment. Their aim is to overwrite its memories. The captain orders his scientists to begin. Older Thom is lowered into the church and steps into the simulation, where he appears as his younger self and the captive robot is transformed into Celia.
