Plot summary
In 1975, the beach suburb of Nobbys Beach runs on boxed wine, baby oil, surf mats, and the novelty of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Jeff Marsh, fourteen, is still working out who he is, and he has a crush on Melly Jones, the shy girl next door. When a dead 200-ton blue whale is left on the sand, the town lands in the spotlight, and Jeff and Melly treat the carcass as the biggest event of their lives. Their parents, the neighbors on a quiet street, have decided behind closed doors to join the sexual revolution in their own way.
