William Eythe

William Eythe was an American performer whose career spanned film, radio, television and theater. Born in Mars, Pennsylvania, he developed an early interest in acting and staged plays in a converted barn. After appearing in more than 80 productions at Carnegie Tech, he joined the Broadway cast of The Moon is Down. After a successful screen test, he signed a long-term contract with 20th Century Fox, and he appeared in The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) as a pacifist son and opposite Jennifer Jones in the Academy Award-winning The Song of Bernadette (1943). He had the juvenile lead in Wilson (1944) and played a double agent in the hit The House on 92nd Street (1945). He produced and acted in the revue Lend an Ear, which ran on Broadway for 460 performances, directed a stage production of The Glass Menagerie, and appeared often in television drama. He later became a professional photographer.
