Sheng Fu

Biography

Sheng Fu was an actor who became a star of Hong Kong kung fu films. Born in Hong Kong, he left school after two years of secondary education, joined the Shaw-TVB training center at sixteen, and graduated in its first class in 1972. He started at Shaw Brothers at seventeen after Chang Cheh discovered him, then trained for six months under Lau Kar-Leung. Early appearances included Man of Iron, Young People and The 14 Amazons (all 1972), and he took his first big role in Police Force (1973). His performance in Chang Cheh's Friends (1974) brought him the Best Young Newcomer prize at the Asian Film Festival's 20th edition. He became known for playing Fang Shi-Yu in kung fu films such as Heroes Two (1973), Men From The Monastery (1974), Shaolin Temple and Shaolin Avengers (both 1976). Disciples of Shaolin (1975) raised him to major stardom, and Chinatown Kid (1977) won him international fame.
