Biography

Mick Garris is an American filmmaker, screenwriter and novelist who works largely in horror and is known for adapting Stephen King. He grew up in Van Nuys after being born in Santa Monica, California. His television script for Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories brought him an Edgar Award in 1986. Garris directed Sleepwalkers, which King wrote, and later the 2011 miniseries Bag of Bones, based on a King novel. He created Masters of Horror for Showtime and Fear Itself for NBC. He shared screenwriting duties on Hocus Pocus and served as an executive producer there too. Other credits include the FEARnet web series Post Mortem, contributions to Trailers From Hell, the documentary Pure in Heart: The Life and Legacy of Lon Chaney Jr., and an appearance as himself in Digging Up the Marrow. The New York City Horror Film Festival honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
