Biography

Hsiang Fei is a Taiwanese-born singer and actor. Born in Taiwan in 1960, he trained at the American Dramatic Arts Academy in New York, finishing in 1980. He appeared in three Taiwanese films early in the 1980s, but it was his singing that took off, and the 13 albums he made in Asia between 1981 and 1989 were all best sellers. In 1987 he became the first entertainer from Taiwan to perform on mainland China's New Year's Eve variety program, and he dominated Chinese pop for the next three years. He joined the original Broadway company of Miss Saigon in 1990, then appeared in other Broadway musicals and plays through 1995. That year he toured the United States with Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Music of Night concert alongside Sarah Brightman, playing 43 cities. A later version reached Beijing in 2001 with Elaine Paige. He returned to recording in Asia with albums in 2000 and 2002.
