Elizabeth Hartman
Biography
Elizabeth Hartman was an American stage and screen actress who grew up in Youngstown, Ohio and trained at Carnegie Mellon University before finding work at the Cleveland Play House and the Youngstown Playhouse. She moved to New York to audition for plays, and in 1964 she was cast in Everybody Out, the Castle is Sinking. Her screen debut was A Patch of Blue (1965), the story of a blind girl opposite Sidney Poitier, and it brought her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year. Later films included The Group (1966), You're a Big Boy Now (1966), for which she earned a second Golden Globe nomination, The Beguiled (1971) and Walking Tall (1973). She voiced Mrs. Brisby in The Secret of NIMH (1982), her only animated role and her last Hollywood film. She died in 1987.

In 1982, Hartman portrayed the protagonist Mrs. Brisby in Don Bluth's The Secret of NIMH. She was praised for the performance, and it was both her only animated role and her last Hollywood film role.
Early training
Hartman graduated from Boardman High School in 1961, where she was a standout dramatic student. She won a statewide best actress award for playing Laura in a high school production of The Glass Menagerie.
