Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Pokémon Apokélypse (2010)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The film was meant to premiere at Vancouver's Anime Evolution convention, but technical difficulties stopped it, so on September 14, 2010 it was revealed instead through viral emails from a sender named "Professor Oak", attaching a thirty-second clip passed off as a recording of a secret movie trailer screening.
  • The title Pokémon Apokélypse was a nod to Apocalypse Now, picked because of the similar shooting ratios: only ten percent of the footage shot for the short actually made it into the finished film.
  • Dialogue and one-liners taken from the original Pokémon anime were deliberately shot in longer scenes and then cropped down, so the lines would not feel forced and would suggest a world beyond what the trailer shows.
  • The idea began in December 2008 as a live-action take on a series: Kial Natale wanted to focus on Grand Theft Auto and Lee Majdoub suggested Dragon Ball Z, until another member of the group suggested Pokémon, which they chose instead.
