Pain and Glory (2019) on Netflix

Plot summary

Chronic back pain, headaches and a long depression have kept filmmaker Salvador Mallo from beginning a new project for years, and he has recently developed trouble swallowing. When his old film Flavor is restored, Salvador is invited to a screening alongside its lead, Alberto Crespo, whom he has not spoken to since they quarreled over Alberto's heroin use during the shoot. Salvador approaches Alberto, and the reunion returns him to his childhood in Paterna, where his parents, newly arrived and poor, moved the family into a cave-house. There his mother found a way for him to study: Eduardo, a young village worker, would be taught to read in exchange for his labor on the cave.
