Plot summary
Rob Schmadtke, notorious as a necrophiliac, killed himself. Monika, a nurse in Berlin who shares that fetish, digs his body out of a church graveyard and carries it to her apartment, where she strips it and stimulates herself with it. When she cannot climax, she throws up in the bathroom, then dresses the corpse again and takes photos with it. She goes to see an art film, where a man named Mark, left waiting when a friend fails to arrive, offers her the spare ticket. She accepts, and the two of them get on well, spending a day together at a carnival.

- Nekromantik 2 was seized by authorities in Munich 12 days after its release, an action with no precedent in Germany since the Nazi era.
- The lead role of Monika was cast without a specific actress in mind: an advertisement drew about 40 applicants, none of them deemed satisfying, until Franz Rodenkirchen recruited Monika M. after meeting her by chance in a movie theater.
- In 1993 an exhaustive expert opinion by film scholar Knut Hickethier got Nekromantik 2 officially deemed "art", though director Jörg Buttgereit said the big shops were still afraid to sell his DVDs.
- The role of Mark required actor Mark Reeder to smoke, but he had no intention of taking up smoking for the sake of art, so the creators revised the part and made Mark a non-smoker.
- Nekromantik 2's film-within-a-film in the movie theater scene parodies My Dinner with Andre: a nude Wolfgang Müller and Käthe Kruse sit outdoors eating numerous boiled eggs and conversing about ornithology.
- At the auditions, actors performed the love scene with Rob's corpse, and Jörg Buttgereit said that although they were all quite willing, none of them took it as seriously as he and his team did.
