Plot summary
Jennifer Verti has put all her savings into the down payment on her first house, and the van carrying her furniture and belongings is stolen before she can move in. Vince is a gambler and a ladies' man whose losses have left him owing a large sum to a collector nicknamed The Monkey. The two are seated beside each other at a wedding, where each is struck by the gifts and cash a couple collects. Neither cares for the other. A week later Jennifer proposes at lunch that they play at romance and engagement, marry, and divide the presents, money enough to furnish her house and settle his debt. Family and friends take the courtship at face value.
