Plot summary
Miguel, a veteran journalist in his later years, agrees to meet Ángela, a journalism student with ideals, at a Madrid restaurant in 1987. She has missed lectures and needs to write an essay, and she has picked Miguel as its subject. He reads a sample of her writing, dismisses much of it, and says she is talented, then asks to keep it. He invites her to the house of his friend Luis, who will be away until Monday, and she accepts. There the two drink whiskey and talk about writing, journalism, literature, politics and aging, while Miguel alternates between cynical advice and mockery of romantic ideas about the profession.
