Plot summary
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 did not close the Civil Rights Movement; it opened a new chapter. The next battle centered on Lowndes County, Alabama, a rural and impoverished place with a history of racist terrorism, where eighty percent of residents are Black and there were zero Black voters. Citizens and activists who campaigned for the vote met violence and oppression. Young organizers with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee worked in the county for voting rights and for Black Power.
