Plot summary
Wilson Joel's wife Liza has died by suicide, and he cannot explain why. In his grief he finds a sealed letter she left behind, which he takes to be her note, and he cannot bring himself to open it. His mother-in-law Mary Ann wants to help him and wants to know what the letter says, but Wilson refuses. To hide the gasoline fumes he inhales at home, he tells his coworker Maura that the smell comes from the remote-controlled planes he flies. Maura asks her brother-in-law Denny, who flies RC models, to come by, and Wilson goes to a hobby shop to buy a plane.
