Plot summary
A cycling holiday in Spain is meant to put some spirit into Walter Elbertson, but the asthma makes the riding torture and he trails the group. Lila Fisher is on a bus tour of the same country, keeping to herself and shrinking from a Spaniard who tries to court her with bird noises. When the two tours cross, Walter gives up the bicycle and climbs onto the bus, landing in the rear seat beside her, wheezing from the run. Neither is at ease with people, and out of necessity they begin to keep each other's company.
