Plot summary
Rikka and her brother Yasushi, both cannibals, corner Kika and her father and burn him to death. A meteorite falls and bursts through Rikka's chest, wrecking her heart, so she rips Kika's heart out and sets it in her own chest. Something unknown seals the two in cocoon-like shells, and ash pours from Rikka until it blankets the northern half of Japan and people become zombies. The government runs a wall through the country to keep the south safe. A year later Kika comes out of her cocoon with an artificial heart and uses a chainsword powered by it to sever the horns of the zombies near the wall. She takes in Taku and his mute companion No-Name, who collects the horns to sell as a drug. Rikka also rises, and the zombies hail her as their queen.
