Plot summary
Jamie Harris is twenty-five, bright and neurotic, and earns a living naming little-known consumer products. She has dated a string of men who treated her badly and is unsure whom to trust or how to find true intimacy. She has set herself a ninety-day moratorium on sex. Then she meets John Kalicharan, a UCLA teacher who has just published his eighth book of poems, and the two are drawn to each other. Her sister Laura, whose boyfriend is steady, is glad Jamie has found someone.
