Plot summary
Taylor Hillridge is a teenager in Indiana. She lives with her single mother, Kris, and her younger brother, Eric. For her seventeenth birthday, Kris gives her a laptop, so she can go online without her mother supervising. Taylor joins a social site called Cliquesters. Her crush, Scott, asks her to a school dance, and her friend Cheyenne is pleased for her, though their friend Samantha is wary of Scott after a bad experience dating his friend. Taylor will not let Eric use the laptop, so he hacks her account and posts an explicit message. She also gets to know a boy, James, through the site, and he writes a status saying they had sex and that she gave him gonorrhea. Bullying follows, online and at school, led by Lindsay Fordyce, and friends begin to pull away.
