Plot summary
Daikichi Kawachi, an office worker, returns home for the funeral of his grandfather, Soichi Kaga, and learns that the old man left behind a six-year-old daughter, Rin. Because the child was born out of wedlock, the rest of the family wants nothing to do with her and intends to send her to a foster home. Daikichi, who is single and has never cared for a child, takes her in instead. Raising Rin proves hard: the overtime daycare center lies far from both his house and his office, so he turns up late at work each day. His sister, Kazumi, who dislikes children, and a nanny, Yumiko Sugiyama, both question his choice. At the daycare center he meets Yukari Nitani, the mother of Rin's friend Koki, who helps him with Rin.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Bunny Drop (2011)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director Sabu shot Bunny Drop with no prepared script, wanting natural reactions from the actors, and the filming staff were told of this only just before production began.
- Child actors Mana Ashida and Ruiki Sato, who played Rin's kindergarten classmates, also shot without a script; they spent a month before filming going through every scene in detail with the assistant director.
- Kenichi Matsuyama, previously in films such as Death Note and Gantz, played Daikichi, a 30-year-old raising his grandfather's illegitimate child; it was the first time the actor had played a father.
- The theme song "Sweet Drops" by the duo Puffy was announced on 2 April 2011; the pair, big fans of the original manga, used "lovely flowers" as material, and the song came out on the 15th anniversary of Puffy's debut.
