Plot summary
Priya Saxena is a junior lawyer who applies to assist a barrister, but she knocks at the wrong door, the house of Raj Malhotra, a product engineer at Voice Mobiles. The two marry, and two years on Priya is pregnant while Raj counts on a promotion to CEO. At the firm's anniversary celebrations, chairman Ranjit Roy presents his younger wife, Sonia, and gives the CEO post to Rakesh, placing Raj on the board. A defect in a new handset sends Raj to Sonia for authorization to stop production. She makes advances; when he refuses, she accuses him of sexual harassment and attempted rape, and Ranjit demands his resignation.

- Abbas–Mustan developed Aitraaz after reading newspaper reports about NBA player Kobe Bryant, who had been accused of rape by a fan, and that sexual-assault case inspired the film's story of a man accused of harassment by his female superior.
- Priyanka Chopra wept while filming Aitraaz's sexual-harassment scene as Sonia Roy, and it took the directors several hours to convince her she was only playing a character; further filming was postponed.
- Priyanka Chopra won the Best Villain prize at the 50th Filmfare Awards for Sonia, becoming only the second actress — and the last — ever to take that award.
- Abbas–Mustan cast Priyanka Chopra in her first negative role as Sonia, a woman who falsely accuses her former lover of rape, and although she was apprehensive about the bold sexual-harassment theme, the duo and Subhash Ghai convinced her to accept it.
