Plot summary
Noah lives by herself in a small New York City apartment. She is a flower child in distress who withdraws into her past, longing for a lost innocence and looking for a safe place to be. Those memories take her back to childhood, when she was known as Susan, and to an encounter in Central Park with a charismatic magician. From him she received three objects: a silver ball that floats, a ring shaped like a star, and a Noah's ark. In the life she leads now, two men are close to her at once. Fred is practical and dull, while Mitch is dynamic, sexy, and nearer to the fantasy partner she pictures. Neither of them can satisfy her completely.
