Plot summary

Eleven short works from eleven countries respond to the attacks of September 11, 2001. In one, a teacher at an Afghan refugee camp tries to explain the news to her students. In another, a boy in Ouagadougou sells newspapers to pay for his mother's medicine, then spots a man who resembles Osama bin Laden and plans with his friends to capture him. A deaf French photographer in New York writes to her fiancé, who had gone to the World Trade Center that morning. A Chilean exile in London recalls September 11, 1973. Elsewhere a journalist works a bombing scene in Tel Aviv, a mother is questioned about her missing son, an old man lives in an apartment that the towers keep in shadow, and a soldier returned from the front in Japan in August 1945 behaves like a snake.
