High school is a time of emotional angst and turmoil that begins especially poorly for Virgil Fox (Jason Dolley of Corey in the House) and 11-year old boy genius Charlie Tuttle (Luke Benward of How to Eat Fried Worms) who are both coldheartedly embarrassed in front of the entire Summerton High School student body on the first day of their freshman year. Their shared experience does have one positive result: it leads to the forging of a close friendship that endures throughout their high school years. In their senior year of high school, Charlie discovers the key to time travel and he and Virgil enlist the help of mechanical-minded Zeke (Nicholas Braun) to create a time vortex which allows the three boys to travel back in time at will. The three pledge to use their newfound power to right the petty injustices of high school life; taking on Chelsea (Stephanie Jameson) as an assistant, and calling themselves the "Minutemen." Life is all fun, adventure, and good deeds for a while, with the only drawback being the unsavory moniker of "Snowsuit Guys." However, their time-bending activities are eventually noticed by the FBI and it soon becomes evident that their good deeds are having some serious unanticipated consequences: specifically, significant personality changes in those they help and the development of a black hole that threatens the very existence of Summerton and the entire world. As the group struggles to repair the damage their time traveling has caused, each learns an important lesson about friendship and what really matters in life. This Disney Channel original movie isn't quite High School Musical, but it is good entertainment for ages 6 and older. --Tami Horiuchi

Virgil Fox's embarrassing first day of high school still follows him around into his senior year. He stood up for Charlie Tuttle, the young genius who'd skipped a few grades, leading them both to be dressed as cheerleaders and hung from the school's mascot. Now, they've spent three years eating at the "dork table", while Charlie does experiments and Virgil misses his middle school friends and tries to figure out a way to be popular like they are.
Things get interesting when Charlie discovers a way to time travel. With help from shop class tough guy, Zeke, they build the time machine at school under the guise of a Back to the Future club. Virgil wants to use the time machine to get popular (and rich), but eventually, Charlie convinces him to put time travel to a more selfless use: saving fellow dorks from pranks and humiliation. Equipped with gear from Charlie's obsessed fangirl, Jeanette, the three boys become known as the snowsuit guys. Unfortunately, the vice-principal forms a vendetta against the snowsuit guys for ruining his school replica and upsetting the status-quo, as the typical dorky kids start to get popular - and obnoxious. And then, there's the FBI and co., watching out for suspicious activity.
I think Minutemen is a great family movie. Is it wacky and cheesy? Definitely. It brought me back to the days of Genius, one of my very favorite Disney Channel movies. And I was honestly obsessed with this movie for a while. It's great to just have something fun and sweet to watch. Since then, I've paid more attention to Disney Channel movies and found that there's still some magic to be had in this format. I would just really love it if they started releasing more of the older Disney Channel movies. Believe me, I would build quite the collection!
