*RING!*

*6 year old me picks up the phone*

"Ummm..hello?"

*Adult me speaks*

Uh, yeah! Hey! I'm you from the future and I just wanted to ask you...WHY HAVEN'T YOU SEEN DOGTANIAN YET? I mean come on! This show is SUPER amazing! You really need to check it out!"

*6 year old me speaks*

"Uh...okay?"

So anyway! Now that I talked a bit with my 6 year old self, I just wanted to GUSH over how much I LOVED "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds!" I can't believe that I waited until I was an ADULT to finally watch this series! I mean COME ON! This seems like the type of series that I would have watched CONSTANTLY when I was little and yet, this show just passed under the RADAR for me!

This show is basically the story about the Three Musketeers (except that they are DOGS and the main character is called DOGTANIAN) and they journey across France to protect their king from any threats to his kingdom.

I am AMAZED at how faithful this series is to the original book "The Three Musketeers" and I just loved the fact that each episode of this show is full of ACTION and DRAMA and I can't help but stay on the edge of my seat, just waiting to see if any of these characters would come out of a DANGEROUS situation okay!

If you are a huge fan of "The Three Musketeers" or you just love watching TV shows about DOGS, then "Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds" is DEFINITELY the show for you!

The Three Musketeers must be the best action novel ever written. I had a chance to read Dumas's version in my early 20's and absolutely loved it. But this interest first came from this cartoon, which was my favorite when I was a kid. I was head over heels for Aramis! I'm excited to share it with my kids today, as they seem really interested in the story as well. I just really wish I could've found the French version, but unfortunately, it's only available in Europe on a different format.

Still, I absolutely recommend you purchase this DVD and share a great classic story with your kids, and made especially for them. I hope you and your children will love it as much as I did (and still do!). I also hope it will spark the interest to buy this great book for yourself. If you really love the book, you will be happy to know there is more! The Three Musketeers is followed by "20 years later" and "The Vicomte de Bragelonne (in 3 books) where the movie "The man with the iron mask" partly came from. Perhaps you will want to read more from Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo, Queen Margot, etc.

In the meantime, I hope you and your children will enjoy this wonderful DVD!

The Three Muskehounds. Dogtanian. I don't know. I loved the story, loved the action, liked the extras, and so loved the experience. The PAL format bothered me, but i had a way to watch it so I was fine about it. I could find myself there in that world see the story unfold, like a fly on the wall. I read the book it's based on (by Dumas),and I'm rather glad that it didn't follow the story exactly. I would let my kids see it (if I had any). Anyone who likes 80's animated genre(anime) and is into dogs should see this series. The theme song is a little corny, but it is memorable.

This is an entertaining box-set, with an extremely catchy soundtrack, perfect for boys and girls age 5-10. Grown-ups likewise will enjoy the stories and life-lessons while following Dogtanian and his many adventures. An amazing value of high quality DVDs so much so that I am ordering a few more for gifts. You won't regret this as it is a welcome change from so many other less-than-interesting kids cartoons. My son and daughter could not get enough of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars one for all and all for one

I hadn't seen this series since i was about seven years old but for some reason it had always stuck in my head as being a very serious cartoon, and very detailed.
After watching it almost 20 years later I was wrong, it isn't that serious, although in one epsisode someone does get shot and later a horse is poisoned and it isn't that detailed, not compared to something like "around the world with Willy Fogg", but it is still a great series, long, but good.. 26 episodes each goes on for around 25 mins a piece, but it's not as long as "cities of gold".
The quality of the episodes is exactly as i remember and the drawings and animation are good but don't show it to a child of today, I did and they ripped it to pieces. it's purely a box set to sit with your mates with some drinks and have a laugh and sing along to the famous theme tune.
The characters are still as vivid as they were all those years ago and my personal favourite "milady" is in it more than i remember.
The extras on the discs are ok but you can't expect that much for an old cartoon. I would defenetly go for this box set as it has all 26 episodes so you can watch from start to finish of the series with no cliff hangers.
but beware, if you think Dogtanian's voice is irritating wait till Pip comes into it, the scrappy-doo of Paris.. very annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A muske-buy!

I bought this for my 5 year old's birthday. Apart from wanting (but not allowed) to watch the whole boxed set in one sitting, he loved it. So did my 7 & 8 year old children.

They have watched all the episodes as they were given the 2nd series as well and have enjoyed following the story line over many days. This gave me a lot of peace as there are over 1000 minutes of viewing time for the first series and also the second.

So, the graphics are dated compared to the computer drawn modern cartoons, but I don't mind this at all and neither do the children.

For anyone who doesn't know, it is based on D'Artanian & the 3 Musketeers. Great story, good morals and much better than much of the modern programmes.

We have subsequently bought a second set for a friend's son's birthday as he loves wathcing ours when they visit, but can't remember which episode they got to each time. He and his sister love it too.

I loved Dogtanian as a child so I bought it for my daughter when she was born, totally so I could watch it again. I am not even half way through this first series and it is entirely compelling already. The animation is rough (a bit like anime) and VERY eighties, but that for me adds to the appeal. The story is epic, and you get a lot for your money. It teaches children the value of friendship, loyalty, bravery, manners and respect for others, surely no bad thing in this world we live in, and it must have the most irritatingly catchy theme song in the world. Three cheers for Dogtanian!

4.0 out of 5 stars Why did his nose glow red when angry? He should have seen a Dogtor about that..

One for all and all for one. I presume. Haven't watched it except for some of the first episode late at night drunk. Will do at some point I hope because as a kid loved the heck out of this cartoon. "Juuuuuuuuulllieeeeet!!!! Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannndyyy!!!" etc. Dogtanian did like shouting a lot and I'm still concerned what would have happened if Milady the cat had had her way with him? Hmm..
