Product Description
Lou Diamond Phillips (COURAGE UNDER FIRE) and Fred Gwynne (PET SEMATARY, MY COUSIN VINNY) team up with a gang of professional criminals who have everything it takes to rob a bank -- except their boss, Corbin Bernsen (MAJOR LEAGUE, L.A. LAW), a car, and a plan. The only things they do have going for them are a cop, Ed O'Neill (MARRIED ... WITH CHILDREN) and his partner, who are dumber than they are! By the time the gang hits the bank vault, it's a safe bet there's going to be organized insanity -- and disorganized crime! This hilarious hit from the makers of STAKEOUT delivers an arresting combination of action, suspense, and comedy!

Corbin Bernsen plays New Jersey based bank robber Frank Salazar, on the lamb after a series of bank robberies in Newark. In a small Montana town, he discovers a local bank with enough cash to make a heist worthwhile.
Rubén Blades, Fred Gwynne, Lou Diamond Phillips and William Russ play the former cons and associates Salazar lines up for the job. Unfortunatly, by the time the gang shows up, Salazar is in the custody of two New Jersey detectives, played by Ed O'Neill and Daniel Roebuck.
Unaware of his arrest, the four henchmen eventually come to the conclusion that Frank Salazar is nowhere to be found and decide to take the bank on their own. That's where the story really begins. Then, Salazar escapes while in transit, and things humorously escalate.
"Disorganized Crime" is full of tongue-in-cheek humor. At one point, the heist is in full swing and time is running out. A police cruiser pulls up to the car in which Ray Forgy (Lou Diamond Phillips) and Carlos Barrios (Rubén Blades) are plotting their next move. Forgy decides to slip underneath the police cruiser.
Forgy: Just keep `em talking!
Barrios: Are you crazy? Don't do this to me!
Forgy: Rock and Roll!
Barrios (To the first police officer): Howdy... I'm kind of Lost.
First Cop: Who you looking for?
Barrios: A friend of mine. She told me to get to main street and go all the way up, up... Then turn right. The street just kept going on and on...
First Cop: What's your friend's name?
Barrios: Her name? Uh... heh heh... Um...Wanda. Wanda, that's it... She works at... at the bank.
First Cop: Wanda Brem?
Barrios: Wanda Brem ... Yeah!
Second Cop: Wanda Brem.
First Cop: She invite you over to her house?
Barrios: Yeah... Yeah.
First Cop: What for?
Barrios: To have something to eat, you know? We were going to eat some food.
"Disorganized Crime" is one of those movies that I can watch every once in a while and not really get tired of seeing. Corbin Bernsen, Rubén Blades, Fred Gwynne, Ed O'Neill, Lou Diamond Phillips, Daniel Roebuck and William Russ give wonderful comic performances that twenty years later, hold up very well.
David Newman's soundtrack is one of the great assets of this film. In fact, the only complaint that I have about "Disorganized Crime" is that a compact disc of David Newman's score for the film was never released.
One complaint of at least one well-known critic concerned the lack of detail given to the bank heist plan.
My answer: Movies about bank heists are usually disingenuous. In terms of audience involvement, they're usually more trouble than they're worth. The outcome is usually an anticlimax, with the one notable exception being "Thief," a James Caan vehicle, another good film with a great soundtrack by Tangerine Dream. However, "Thief" is in a completely different film genre.
In trying to figure out what he had to say about "Disorganized Crime," I can only guess that Roger Ebert was getting tired of action/comedy films at that point in his career and couldn't possibly see the real garbage that would eke out of Hollywood over the next two decades.
Finally: Who is Wanda Brem? For someone who isn't a central character in "Disorganized Crime," Wanda Brem's name is mentioned several times. All I can say is, somebody did a Hitchcock-type cameo: Read the end credits and find out who the associate producer is.
I sorely wish they had a chance to do a sequel. Sadly, Fred would pass before they were able to reunite - and he really was the center mass around which the others found a proper orbit.
In 'Disorganized' we follow a group of four professional thieves who have been summoned together by Frank Salazar, recent transplant from New Jersey. And when Frank calls it's only for the big dollar jobs. But even the seasoned pros have to admit - it's a strange locale. The city slickers are sincerely out of their element as they find themselves in 'Big Sky Country' aka Wyoming - land of cowboys, outdoorsmen and doomsday preppers.
What starts off as a straight boost turns into a hilarious mystery as the assembled crew can't find the man behind the plan; Frank wasn't at the train depot to meet them and he's not at the safe house. So what happened?
And that splits this production into two parallel movies. As the team of four decide to take the down the heist despite the loss of their leader, and the leader's insanely funny trials and travails attempting to escape from a pair of bumbling Jersey cops.
Quite possibly my favorite heist flick - one I never tire from repeat screenings. :-D
Personal Note: Again, I'm a huge fan of the late Fred Gwynne and this extremely fun movie is a sad reminder of what-could-have-been. When the world *finally* got past "that television role", the one he learned to despise over the years, he wouldn't live long enough to really explore that new found artistic freedom. So sad. We only have a glimpse of Fred's potential in films like this and ' My Cousin Vinny '.
