Product Description
When a group of crazy college geniuses put their heads together, almost anything can happen. Hold on for a freewheeling, uproarious look at just how much mischief a bunch of high-IQers can concoct. Chris (Val Kilmer) is the top brain who just wants to party, Mitch (Gabe Jarret) is the 16-year-old whiz kid, and Lazlo (Jonathan Gries), America's number one brain, literally lives in a world of his own ... Chris' closet. Supposedly hard at work on a lab project, they still find time to turn the dorm into an ice-skating rink, dismantle a nerd's car and reassemble it in his room, and throw a beach party in the auditorium complete with a lagoon and bikini-clad beauties. When the geniuses discover that their unscrupulous mentor Professor Hathaway (William Atherton) has had them working on a secret weapon for the military, they plot an elaborate revenge. Their plan culminates in an incredible scheme that outsmarts the military and convinces the professor that it doesn't pay to fool with a Real Genius!

We watched it last week and I was surprised how well the film survives the time. Sure, there are DOS computers and funky hair, but the characters are funny, the story-line is entertaining and thought-provoking (depending on which mood you're in), and I found it such a joy to watch that ... ummm ... I actually watched it a second time in a row when my older kids came back from their swimming training.
That's right ... I sat there for 4 hours and watched this movie twice, back-to-back.
A word about THIS version -- I was concerned that it was imported (Dutch, I think), but the film is in English as normal, and includes the option of English subtitles. It's even Region 0 so will play on any DVD player.
SPOILERS:
If you don't know the story-line, basically a young teenager named Mitch is selected to join an elite team at university, researching lasers. The professor in charge is actually selling out to a secret government organisation that wants to use the laser to shoot (and eliminate) any of their enemies from space. There is a lot of tension between the professor and his main protege, Chris Knight, mainly because Chris is afraid of being so studious that he "burns out" like the guy named Lazlo, a previous protege, who lives in his closet, but in the end, Chris is threatened with failing university if he doesn't succeed in getting the laser to work. Chris and Mitch work non-stop to get the magnitude of energy that they're being asked to achieve, but when they do succeed, it's Lazlo who comes out of the closet to suggest that it's actually a weapon that they're building. Now comes the subterfuge and sabotage where Chris and Mitch sneak onto the secret base and re-direct the laser to strike the professor's house and a ton of unpopped popcorn kernels, thus exploding the house with popcorn. Why popcorn? The professor hates it. The world is saved, Chris graduates, Mitch gets the girl, and Lazlo wins 31.8% of the Frito-Lay sweepstakes prizes including a caravan. A real feel-good film if ever there was one!
* Menü in 16:9
* Film im Original-Seitenverhältnis 2.35:1 (anamorph)
* Ton in den Sprachen: Englisch (Dolby Surround), Französisch (Mono), Deutsch (Mono), Spanisch (Mono) und Italienisch (Dolby Surround)
* Untertitel in den Sprachen: Holländisch, Englisch, Französisch, Deutsch, Spanisch, Italienisch, Portugiesisch, Türkisch, Griechisch, Polnisch, Tschechisch, Ungarisch, Bulgarisch, Dänisch, Schwedisch, Finnisch, Norwegisch, Isländisch, Arabisch, Hindu und Hebräisch
* 2 Trailer: Hook und Groundhog Day
Weiteres:
