It seemed that this was set in modern era Southern California, or the Bay Area. I thought it was Burbank or Van Nuys. It might have even been North Hollywood. Southern California has still has some unique neighborhoods, its only socially redeeming value. The fact that it is multi-million dollar real estate doesn't help SoCal's charm at all.
I think the acting talent really sets this movie apart. I love watching diamonds in the rough more than a overhyped movie or franchise, although they have their place. For what it's worth never hearing about this and not knowing the plotline helped the enjoyment of this film. It reminds me of a coffee table book. If you have time, give it a try. You may like it
There were many movies shot in single locations during covid. No other movie makes less of an effort. On a production level. On a story level. On a creative level. We've seen the right way to do this. It's to make a movie within the setting where years later we're completely unaware of the limitations or restrictions of the global pandemic. Every time a new character enters the movie, they might as well hold a sign that says, we shot this during covid.
But if it's only a dream it is very much a pleasant one in which nothing unpleasant or untoward happens. On that scale it achieves a kind of relaxation and then walks away.
It was a string of snippets, almost all of which were unrelated other than mentioning "the world ends".
1. Instead of a "road trip" buddy movie, Liza goes all around LA, and I mean ALL AROUND Silverlake, to the Valley, back down to Hollywood Hills on foot;
2. Like a Grecian Goddess she is followed by her metaphysical younger self; and
3. Like a Biblical/Torah character, she needs to make amends and quick to everyone.
I found it sweet, inspired and very introspective. So many movies as this one are inspired by our isolation during COVID and that "what would we do scenarios". I really liked it and was most happy to see the funny, wonderful cameos by all the comedians who made it in.
Well done!
