In 2013, a best-selling non-fiction book was released by former United States Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. His documentation of time spent on four tours of duty was chronicled in American Sniper. The details of his book and events after the release have all been put together for a movie by the same name. Directed by Clint Eastwood (star of Netflix streaming film Mystic River) and starring Bradley Cooper, American Sniper is an accurate portrayal of one of the deadliest soldiers in United States history.

With a runtime of 132 minutes, American Sniper covers a lot of story and the complete life of Chris Kyle. As a child, Kyle is raised as a sharpshooter hunter and is very protective of his younger brother. Their companionship leads to adult-hood as Kyle rides in a rodeo circuit to earn extra money and rewards on the weekend. Motivated to do something more with his life, at the age of 30, Kyle enlists in the armed forces – more specifically the Navy SEALS. These elite group of soldiers have been featured in many movies, including streaming documentaries on Netflix. To become an official SEAL, Kyle must go through rigorous training, exercises, and survival courses. He eventually passes, using his passion for the United States and a dedication to getting things done in the best way possible.

During his training, Chris Kyle eventually becomes an expert on the sniper. He trains on targets and after the September 11th attacks, Kyle must head over to Iraq while his wife (Sienna Miller) nurses a baby through her first pregnancy. As a sniper, Kyle quickly catches on and learns how to protect other soldiers. He quickly gets used to the idea of killing and uses sharpshooting shots to take enemies that include both women and children when necessary. The film follows the Iraqi war like many other war films that can be streamed on Netflix. Kyle's skills on the sniper become so good that he is nicknamed “The Legend.” This nickname carries on as Kyle moves up in rank, goes on multiple missions, and ends up being in four different tours of the Iraqi war. As he has two children at home, the main goal for Kyle in the war is to hunt an enemy sniper that has a reward out for the American's death. All of this drama unfolds through quick scenes, dramatic images, and Bradley Cooper's spot-on acting of the American dedicated to protecting his country.

American Sniper started out in limited theater release on Christmas Day. This was a film that followed a traditional release schedule and will eventually premiere on websites like Netflix. It reaches all United States theaters on January 16th, 2015. To help represent Iraq, several sets were built in California and Morocco. The set building was used to make the war scenes look as accurate as possible. Warner Brothers is the main distributor for the film, along with Village Roadshow Pictures, 22 & Indiana Pictures, and Malpaso Productions. 22 & Indiana Pictures is Bradley Cooper's production company. He actually worked hard to retain the rights to the book for the film.
