Great merging of actual Everest footage and studio photography

Great merging of actual Everest footage and studio photography
Such a sad story, especially of Rob Hall, set amidst the grandeur of Everest. I found it hard to watch knowing ahead of time what tragedy lay ahead, the seeds of which are clearly sown by fateful decisions leading inexorably to the impending disaster. How I wish I could go back in time and warn all the parties involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Compelling
Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2021
This movie is about the disaster on Mount Everest in May 1996, in which eight people (including commercial expedition leaders Rob Hall and Scott Fisher) died when a violent storm hit the mountain during a summit attempt. The movie appears to combine accounts of the 1996 Everest disaster written by survivors Jon Krakauer ("Into Thin Air"), Anatoli Boukreev (“The Climb”), and Beck Weathers (“Left for Dead”). It depicts the conditions on Everest in a stunningly credible manner, with very convincing photography, such that the viewer is almost there. The casting is, with one exception in my opinion, extremely convincing. That said, the movie makes several unsupported suggestions about what actually happened on the mountain, particularly with respect to Hall's guide Andy Harris and client Doug Hansen, both of whom disappeared just below the summit with no real explanation. Further, it paints a somewhat unflattering portrait of the actions of Krakauer, whose book is a classic on the subject. (It is not surprising that Krakauer expressed disgust at this movie.) Significantly, the movie emphasizes expedition leader Hall's failure to adhere to the traditional turn-around time of 2:00 p.m. which, it is hinted, cost him his life and Hansen's. Tragically, that is likely a valid conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atemgefrierende Bilder in sehr wohl! eisigen Höhen
Reviewed in Germany on July 1, 2017

15.15 Uhr: " Ich geh` runter. " .....Und dann kam der Eissturm.........................................

Lauflänge: 116.08 Minuten ( mit Abspann ) !

Bonus ( deutsche Untertitel ) :

- Gipfelrennen: Das Making of zu Everest= 10.27 Minuten!

What I liked about the movie is it's based on a true story. I was amazed by how many enthusiast climbers strived to meet the next summit so they can write that off their bucket list lol. What I disliked about the movie is climbers lost their lives by the fridged cold temperatures, frost bite which ends with amputated toes, noses, death. This movie captured all that is real when tackling climbs such as this. It's one that you can watch numerous time and never lose interest.
