Product Description

Product Description

This film is about a hyper-vigilant employee of the department of public safety who, while training his young female replacement, has to track down a missing girl who he is convinced is connected to a paroled sex offender he is investigating.

Amazon.com

Richard Gere stars in The Flock as Errol Babbage, a government employee in charge of tracking registered sex offenders who has become convinced he can tell when they're about to offend again. When a young girl is kidnapped, he loses his bearings and sinks into a violent obsession, dragging his new partner (Claire Danes) into a dogged investigation that includes abusive interrogations, flagrant violations of civil rights, and a whole lot of sexual tension between the two of them. The Flock is the sort of overheated thriller that wants to condemn sexual deviance while depicting it in absurdly lurid and titillating ways (the scenes in a porn studio/fetish market are slathered with moral indignation but ooze with repressed lust). The movie wants to be a portrait of a passionate man who risks becoming what he most abhors, but it's implausible at every turn. The Flock lurches from one sleazy sequence to another, intoxicated by its own hypocrisy, cheering on Babbage's vigilantism while pretending to compare it with the dangerous acting-out of the deviants. In the end, Babbage is redeemed and affirmed. Also featuring Ray Wise (Twin Peaks), KaDee Strickland (Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid), French Stewart (3rd Rock from the Sun), and an extremely brief appearance by pop star Avril Lavigne. --Bret Fetzer

Top reviews from the United States

I watched "Flock" with surprise, as I hadn't even seen promo's for it. I LOVED IT!!! I don't need to tell you whats in the movie, everyone else has already done that. I was amazed by the movie. Richard Gere, can play ANYTHING and make it come out good. I believe he did better in this, than he did in "Internal Affairs" and I believe that's saying a lot. While the movie is some what slow at first, it has to be. It has to get the people watching it, into what's going on. I feel that's hard to do, with the subject at hand. Sexual predators is a very hard subject to do in a movie. It's a touchy subject. Anyone in "real life", who works with these people gets a feeling about them. I doubt that many of them act on it. That's what I love about this movie. I felt myself WANTING to do just what Gere's character did. I can't wait to get the movie for myself. I own ALL of Richard Gere's movies and I haven't be disappointed in any of them. I feel Gere should get an award for this movie, as it IS an out-of-cast character for him, and he plays it so well. I really don't understand the bad reviews that this movie got. I guess that some people expect too much. I just love to watch a movie just for what it is. Now I'm not saying, I haven't seen what I thought was a crappy movie. What "I" think is a bad movie. verses other people would probably start an argument. I guess one persons bad movie is another persons good movie. Isn't it great we all don't like the same things???

Some may think my 4 rating is generous. Maybe it is. This is better than most of today's movies.

The Flock could have been better directed and produced but you can tell it was not high budget.

The Flock is about a sex offender registrar administrator. That is someone who keeps track of sex offenders in the local or state region.
Richard Gere's character is a burnt out worker mainly because he had been awkwardly obsessed with finding a particular missing girl for years for some parents so they get closure. And he hopes she is still alive. A new hire comes in because he has been essentially let go because of said behavior. He trains her. During this training period a girl goes missing and you can imagine the rest of the story.
The movie was not great but it was a decent watch.
2007 was still a time when all movies and TV shows were not all about men bad and white people being bad, America bad and everything gay/trans. The Flock movie is not perfect but better than most B movies by well known actors.
I won't say anything more as to not spoil it.
This movie has sensitive sexual and deviant taboos and people who engage in the behavior so some people may be triggered or have ptsd moments. Watch with caution. There are some moments with s&m, blood and gore.

Both Richard Gere and Claire Danes are exceptional in this film. However, their performances are overshadowed by the actress who played the psychotic killer. Two thumbs up for this at times grisly film.

"Monstrous Graphic Torture!" another reviewer's title, and at about 47 minutes into this film, I began to question why I was watching it--so I stopped. I think, in terms of the way the plot was heading, that Richard Gere's character has become a "sex offender" the kind of people he has been watching/monitoring, in his public servant role, for almost two decades.

The scenes in this film are horrifying depictions, descriptions of disembodiments and abuse of women. And the direction, the editing is shot to force the viewer into "viewing" this madness, including the character that Gere portrays.

I would not recommend this film to anyone. In fact, I have seen crime dramas, fictional and true story accounts, with much less violence--or a warning about the violence (unless I missed a warning).

As for rating it, I didn't want to rate it, but the system will not let me review the film otherwise.

Make better use of your time, or money. Don't watch it!

Gere is very good as the state or county government worker who tracks child molesters. He is driven by demons, some of which he no doubt had already, but lots of them from the stress and general thanklessness of the job. I like the scenes of the government offices, large rooms crammed with desks and a ceiling filled with fluorescent lights, just like in real life. Claire Danes, to me, is somewhat miscast as a young trainee. I just didn't believe her character. The bad guys are truly bad, and some of the scenes are really creepy, but I cannot object to them. The movie was shot in New Mexico, a nice touch. Richard Gere always surprises me by his acting. He really is believable in his roles.

I read good reviews on here about this movie but it was far from good. Strange, disjointed movie with unnecessary sequences and flashback type editing. It was hard to even care about these people or what was happening to them. Richard Gere over acts non stop and portrays more like a detective than a simple public safety guy checking in on sex offenders. He's basically obsessed and possessed to the point of unbelievable. Half the time I skipped forward just to get through it. Pretty stupid movie honestly.

Richard Geer and Claire Danes were perfect together in the roles as the experienced parole officer of sex offenders Richard Geer and the newbie, who is take over Geer's job. She learns that the job is a lot tougher than she expected and sees why Richard Geer is the way he is with these people, who Lie through their eye teeth every chance they get. They show the sick world of the sexual parolees and what the parole officer has to never trust a one of them, as they are not going to change one bit, as this is a person who is no longer a human being, but a very mentally sick individual, who does not give a damn about human life.............

3.0 out of 5 stars Very disturbing
Reviewed in Canada on August 4, 2015
This is a movie that is quite graphic in the dealings if missing girls, pedophilia, pornography and some rather morbid fetishes. While the acting performances are very good, the subject matter requires a strong stomach in parts and definite anger control.
Here plays a public servant given Danes to train in the field of registering and tracking sex offenders of every description. His past and commitment to the parents of a missing girl take you on a very sordid adventure of the sick world of sex addiction and the twisted turns it can take. It is not for everyone but if you like suspense and the evils of sex hone astray, this is a very entertaining movie.
