I never got to see this movie. I ordered the movie and got instant Movie. Now I have MacAffee and AVG virus protection and firewalls. ALl kinds of sirens went off, my computer froze, died. It took a person from the Geek Squad to restore my computer- 7 hours and 300 bucks more than I make in one week. Caveat Emptor.

Two stars for an original approach to a slasher flick, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The premise of Le Vaudou Mort (a revenge machine) is great, but there is absolutely no tension and the reveal of the antagonist is completely anticlimactic. There was a much better choice for who the antagonist could have been (someone who was actually affected by a prank pulled by the core group), but the writer opted for something far more random and less effective.

A little choppy and a little fast and loose with a realistic story line. Maybe a little more history on the box and how things got set in motion would have helped. Actors were ok, but actors were a little more relaxed considering the killing going on around them and specifically who was getting knicked.

Maybe almost like it was filmed on the first take and actually could've gone over and tightened things up bit. Just didn't feel like some of the actors were taking their roles seriously.

You could probably do better for a horror/thriller

I'm a sucker for movies with evil, antique objects (like Hellraiser's puzzle box) and, overall, I enjoyed this one. I think the script could have been given another once over to fill a couple plot holes and such and the acting could have been better, but IMHO it wasn't bad. The movie has an interesting premise and the device itself is absolutely beautiful.

Plot wise, the story is very similar to DEATH NOTE--someone has control of an ancient object that can kill others at any distance and they use it for revenge. There are a lot of points that could have been examined deeper and, as I said, there are some really big plot holes.

Visually, the film is very well done and the special effects are top notch. No nudity and a lot of blood and gore. I would normally give a film like this a 3 star rating, but that machine is so damn cool I'm giving it an extra star!

Overall, it's an enjoyable enough distraction that could have been better, but could have been a lot worse.

i enjoyed the originality of this film. it really had me going as to whom the killer was who took the box and why. I like scary suspenseful movies like this one. I look forward to watching more good movies on amazon instant video and amazon prime. Thank you for allowing me to rate such a good film.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Box Of Frights

!!! WARNING. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS. !!!!

When college student Ben Rutherford(Michael Dorman) recieves one final item belonging to his late fathers estate, a mysterious ornate box bearing the inscription "Le Vaudo Mort", little does he know that the seemingly harmless implement has a dark, blood soaked history, and when Le Vaudo Mort falls into the wrong hands Ben and his small circle of friends are all in terrible danger. Can Ben's estranged brother Marcus(Travis Fimmel) help him unlock the secret of the bloody box before it kills again...
This is another example of Australia's increasing standing in the world of horror. Not just a supernatural slasher, but a horror whodunnit and a buddy movie, 'Needle' benefits from giving its protagonists real depth of character, and whilst it might not chill the bone, it does create a very unsettling atmosphere.
One of the best aspects of the film to me was the fractuous relationship between the two warring brothers, unwillingly thrust together as amateur sleuths to find the secrets of Le Vaudo Mort. Fimmel is especially good as Marcus, bringing a real dynamic to proceedings. Marcus is involved in another entertaining relationship, with coroner Paul(John Jarrat, sadly underused).
Of course, Needle is first and foremost a horror film and should be judged on whether it succeeds as one. I think it does so admirably, and despite the fact it will probably gain comparisons with Hellraiser for its use of devilish box as Modus operandi of the mysterious assailant, I think that Needle is both original and at times ingenious enough to be celebrated for what it is, a bloody enjoyable horror film, with interesting characters and a literate script.
5 out of 5, despite there being no extras on this budget release.

3.0 out of 5 stars NEEDLES
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 17, 2013
I enjoyed this film, and rated it with three stars. I can't say much about NEEDLE as it was very machanical, and what I expected, still a good horror film, worth a purchase, but its run of the mill type film.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good Aussie horror with a faintly Hellraiser device twist
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 5, 2011
Far better than the Hellraiser rip-off I expected.
The opening is not particularly startling, but it intruigues enough to grip, and when we fast forward to the present and meet main character Ben and his friends, they're all just well characterised and played enough to stand out from the usual slasher fodder. As a result, you care just a little more when someone bites the dust.
Archeology student Ben has pretty much moved on after the death of his father when he gets an unwelcome visit from his estranged brother Marcus trying to make amends, and receives one last heirloom - a strange box that no-one can figure out. Almost as quickly as it appears, it's been stolen, and people he cares about start dying in nasty, very bloody ways...
Needle is interesting because it plays the murder mystery card more heavily than most slashers, which are normally just concerned with ways to up the body count. Instead Needle has the heroes pursue the case while they try to deal with their sibling issues, in between brutal murder scenes.
The plot device is fun and allows for some inventive demises, and the leads play their roles better than usual. In addition, the plot is nicely staged - and while it's not completely unpredictable it has enough nice moments and red herrings to keep you very entertained.
A fine example of modern Aussie horror, and an above average 'college kids' slasher flick.

5.0 out of 5 stars This film is well worth watching

I happened onto this movie by chance and I thought it was excellent. The writer may have been inspired - so I read - by teen horror films, this one is innovative and well presented. There are clues to the killer, and there are red herrings, but - the gore apart, which I never really go for - I thought this was that oddity, an intelligent horror film. I'd strongly recommend it.
